Is it safe to use Online Banking?

Absolutely. In fact, recent studies suggest that consumers who use online account access are more likely to spot suspicious transactions on their accounts.

Remember, phishing attacks don't make Online Banking unsafe. Their goal is to make you think that you are using Oshkosh Truck CUís Online Banking website when you are actually looking at a "spoofed" site, then to trick you into giving away your personal information.

The online banking portion of OTCU's website is secure due to a combination of security measures at the website level and and at the server level.  These security measures make your communication sessions from within the online banking section of the website secure.

In addition, there are steps which you can take to further protect your account. For instance:

  • Access the online banking portion of the OTCU website by one of the following methods:

    • Carefully type the website address into your browser

    • Use a trusted bookmark.

    • Use the ONLINE BANKING button available on OTCU's home page.  Then make sure to check the address in the internet browser.  It should include "https" and the following address:

  • Use a current web browser, and keep your computer and browser up-to-date with the latest security patches.

  • Make sure that you have up-to-date anti-virus and spyware detection software installed and properly configured on your computer.

If your operating system includes firewall software, make sure that it is active. Consider an inexpensive firewall device, especially if your computer is always connected to the Internet, as is the case with most cable, DSL, or other broadband connections.

  • Choose a strong PIN or Password for online banking. Don't share your PIN / PW with others, and don't write it down where others can find it.

  • Always log out when you are done with your online banking session.  Do this by clicking on the "Log Out" button to terminate your connection with the online banking server.
